What are the requirements for the Canadian Citizenship Application?
Permanent resident who wishes to apply for Canadian Citizenship must meet a number of basic requirements:

Residency
you must be physically present for at least 1,095 days within the last 5 years prior to filing the application.

Income Tax
you must have filed income taxes for at least three of the last five years in which you were a permanent resident.

Language
you must provide proof that you are proficient in one of the official languages of Canada: French or English unless you are under 18 or over 54.

Citizenship test

The test shows what you know about Canada. There are 20 questions about the rights and responsibilities of Canadians and Canada:

History, Geography,The Economy, The Government, The Laws, The Symbols


The test questions are based on the official citizenship study guide: Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship. The citizenship test is not designed to assess your language skills in English or French.


Who takes the Canadian citizenship test?
Every permanent resident must take the test unless he/she is under 18 or over 54 years of age.
Any permanent resident is exempt from taking the Canadian Citizenship Test if he/she has circumstances that prevent him/her from taking the test.

 

Citizenship Oath

 A person who has been granted citizenship must take the Oath of Citizenship, in either English or French or in both languages if they so choose, by swearing or solemnly affirming before a citizenship judge or any person delegated by the Minister’s delegate.

 

Taking the Oath of Citizenship is the final legal requirement that grant applicants who are 14 years of age or older must meet in order to become Canadian citizens.
